The Peninsula Python
Music & Lyrics by Sam Sapp

Verse #1

8th of June in ‘44,
The legend started we find.
Dogs were edgy for a couple of days,
Farmer Clarence paid them no mind.
In bib overalls and old felt hat,
In the field tending his corn.
Didn’t know what made him look up,
When he did the first sighting was born.

In his patch, 15 paces away,
Largest snake he’d ever seen.
18 feet long and thick as his thigh,
Left tracks on the way to the stream.
Across the river working his field,
Farmer Mike heard Clarence yell,
Couldn’t make out what the stir was about,
Then he spotted the reptile as well.

Chorus

The story tells of a circus train,
An overturned reptile car.
Escapees were all accounted for,
Save one, that slithered afar.
Have you seen the Peninsula Python?

A legend bigger that life,
Have you seen the Peninsula Python?
IT’S BIG… And causing great strife.

Verse #2

Just about noon, late that June,
Ethel went out for a stroll.
When she saw a large spotted snake,
Eating her prize chicken whole.
Large bird caused a lump in its throat,
Got stuck in the fence up ahead.
19 foot snake backed up in haste,
Reared up and over it went.

Left a track as big as a tire,
That’s what the people said.
Like before it lead to the stream,
Where the snake quickly fled.
Storied spread throughout the town,
Scaring women folk by the claims.
There’ll be no berry pick in’,
“They can rot on the canes.”

Chorus

…..Have you seen the Peninsula Python?
A legend bigger that life,
Have you seen the Peninsula Python?
IT’S HUGE… And causing great strife.

Verse 3

Pauline drove down to milk her cows,
Found them bawling with terror.
A thump was heard by a Poplar tree,
Turned around but nothing was there.
Swaying Willow caught her eye,
Large snake looking her way.
Head the size of a grown man’s,
Didn’t move or slither away.

Yelled at a lad, riding his bike,
Pointing and crying, “Hey boy!,
Go downtown and fetch a man,”
Took off like a soldier deployed.
The boy returned with one of his friends,
Turned out to be a mistake.
All they did was watch from afar,
Afraid of facing the snake.

Chorus

…..Have you seen the Peninsula Python?
A legend bigger that life,
Have you seen the Peninsula Python?
IT’S GIGANTIC… And causing great strife.

Verse #4

More sightings happened that summer,
Posses in town we’re formed.
Men showed up with weapons and guns,
The mayor became quite concerned.
He ordered only lawmen be armed,
And each team only one gun.
More danger of harming themselves,
Than a python hurting someone.

Posses were out combing the fields,
When the siren blew three times.
Signal that the creature was found,
In mass they drove back to town,
Empty cars were strewn all about.
All rushed to see the large snake.
Soon after that the hunt was called off,
When the sighting turned out to be fake.

Chorus

…..Have you seen the Peninsula Python?
A legend bigger that life,
Have you seen the Peninsula Python?
IT’S HUMONGOUS… And causing great strife.

Have you seen the Peninsula Python?
A legend bigger that life,
Have you seen the Peninsula Python?
BEFORE HE EATS SOMEONE’S WIFE!
